Terms of use

The rules for using Isolínea, in plain words.

By using the app or this site, you accept these terms.

Version 2

This page is also available in other languages; if there are any differences, the Spanish version prevails.

What Isolínea is

Isolínea shows on a map the earthquakes around the world published by public seismological agencies, and alerts you when one meets what you chose for your area.

Today it works in the browser, at app.isolinea.app; the Android, iPhone and desktop apps are coming very soon.

It is not an earthquake early warning system

Isolínea reports on earthquakes after they happen, once seismological agencies publish them, usually 5 to 20 minutes later.

It doesn’t predict earthquakes or warn before the waves arrive.

Don’t rely on Isolínea for your safety.

If your country or your phone has an earthquake early warning system, keep it turned on.

In a strong earthquake, follow the instructions of your country’s civil protection authorities.

Where the data comes from

The data comes from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) and GEOFON (GFZ, Germany).

Preliminary magnitudes and locations change often; Isolínea shows which agency provided each figure and whether it has been reviewed.

For official information for your country, check its national seismic network and civil protection authorities.

“I felt it”

“I felt it” reports are sent by the people who use the app; no agency reviews them, and they can be wrong.

Only use it if you really felt the earthquake.

To prevent abuse, each device can send one report every 10 minutes.

What we keep from each report and when we delete it is set out in the privacy policy.
