The essentials
- You don’t need an account: we don’t ask for your name, email or a password.
- Your exact location stays on your device; the server only receives it rounded to about 10 km.
- “I felt it” reports are deleted after 30 days.
- You can delete all your data whenever you want, from the app.
What data we use
This is everything Isolínea stores or sends in order to work.
| Data | Purpose | Where it’s kept |
|---|---|---|
| Approximate locationOnly if you allow it. | Purpose To work out the distance to each earthquake and decide whether to alert you. |
Where it’s kept Your exact location is only used on your device. The server receives it rounded to 0.1° (about 10 km). |
| Notification token | Purpose To send you alerts. |
Where it’s kept Firebase (Google) servers. |
| Alert preferencesDistance, minimum magnitude and quiet hours. | Purpose To filter which earthquakes we notify you about. |
Where it’s kept Firebase (Google) servers. |
| “I felt it” reportsOnly if you tap the button. | Purpose To show where and how strongly people felt an earthquake. |
Where it’s kept Firebase servers: your area rounded to 0.1° (about 10 km), the intensity you chose and the time. Nobody can read your report; only totals by area are published. Reports are deleted after 30 days. |
| Anonymous identifier | Purpose So that only your device can read and change its preferences, and to limit reports to one every 10 minutes. |
Where it’s kept Firebase Authentication, with no name, email or phone number. |
We don’t collect your name, email, contacts, photos or location history.
This website
isolinea.app doesn’t use cookies, has no analytics or trackers, and shows no ads.
To draw the week’s earthquakes, the home page requests them directly from USGS from your browser, so USGS receives your IP address, like any site you visit.
The site is served from Firebase Hosting (Google), which also needs your IP address to deliver the pages to you.
Who processes the data
We use Firebase and Google Cloud (Google LLC) to store preferences and send alerts.
The data is stored on Google servers in the United States, whatever country you’re in.
Notifications travel through Firebase Cloud Messaging and, on Apple devices, also through the Apple Push Notification service.
These providers process the data only to provide the service.
Earthquake data comes from public seismological agencies (USGS, EMSC and GEOFON); our server queries them without sending them anything about you.
How long we keep it
- “I felt it” reports are deleted after 30 days; each earthquake’s totals by area are kept without any identifier.
- Alert preferences are kept for as long as the app is installed and active.
- If a device stops responding to notifications for 90 days, we delete its data automatically.
How to delete your data
In the app, go to Settings → Privacy → Delete my data.
You can also uninstall the app: your device stops receiving alerts and its data is deleted automatically after 90 days.
If you can’t get into the app, write to us at hello@isolinea.app.
Your rights
Isolínea is run from Costa Rica and follows Ley 8968, Costa Rica’s law on the protection of personal data.
Wherever you live, you can request access to, correction or deletion of your data by writing to hello@isolinea.app.
Because the data is anonymous, we’ll ask you for the code shown in Settings → Privacy to find it.
When we launch Pro
Not on sale yet
Today Isolínea charges nothing and doesn’t require an account.
Isolínea Pro, once it exists, will require an account and a purchase, and that means a little more data:
- Your email address, for the account.
- The status of your purchase (whether your subscription is active), which the store or payment provider reports to us.
Payment will be handled by the App Store, Google Play or a payment provider acting as the seller (merchant of record); they process the purchase under their own policies.
We never see or store your card number.
Before launch, we’ll update this policy with the full details.
Isolínea Free will keep working without an account.
Minors
Anyone can use the app, and it doesn’t ask for any data that identifies the person using it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top and, if the change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app.
